“YouTube Music may be getting its own AI-driven radio feature,” we reported earlier this month. And lo, it has come to pass, with YouTube confirming that exactly this feature is currently being tested.
“We’ve also begun to experiment with an AI-generated conversational radio for some users in the US,” is how YouTube’s spokesperson described it in a statement.
“Premium users in the experiment can create a custom radio by describing exactly what they want to hear. We hope to bring this to even more YouTube Music users in the future.”
It’s thus a different spin on ‘AI radio’ to Spotify’s DJ feature, which involves a virtual DJ talking in between tracks as they are served up. On YouTube Music, it’s the listener doing the talking as they prompt the recommendations algorithm with their voice.
YouTube Music’s confirmation of the test came alongside the official rollout of a previously-tested feature: the ability to search its catalogue by singing, humming or playing a song.
