Character.AI has announced the launch of its new capability allowing users to engage in conversations with AI characters via phone calls. This innovative feature allows users to communicate in a wide array of languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

Ahead of its public debut, Character.AI conducted extensive testing of the calling feature. During this testing phase, the company reported that more than 3 million users engaged in over 20 million calls with AI characters.
Character.AI has prioritized optimizing the calling experience, focusing on minimizing latency to ensure smooth and seamless interactions. The app stores over one million voices in its library.
Google also plans to release a customized chatbot to rival Meta and Character.AI in the future.
