Following the international expansion of the Gemini mobile app, Google is now adding an Omnibox shortcut for Gemini in the Chrome address bar. This means users will be able to quickly fire up the conversational AI chatbot via Chrome by typing @gemini in the search box, followed by their query.
The prompt will take users directly to gemini.google.com/chat with the chatbot ready to answer their query. The new shortcut has started to roll out for everyone.
How to use the Gemini shortcut in Google Chrome
Back in 2022, Google Chrome introduced Omnibox shortcuts, allowing users to access @bookmarks, @history, and @tabs in a jiffy. The web browser is now adding the @gemini shortcut to allow quick access to the AI chatbot. To use the feature, follow the below-mentioned steps:
Step 1: Type @ in the desktop address bar and select Chat with Gemini or simply type @gemini
Step 2: Write your prompt after selecting Gemini from the address bar
Step 3: Get your response on gemini.google.com in a new chat without having to first open the website
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Google shared a video guide to access the new feature, which is embedded below:

The Gemini app is available globally via Google Play Store for Android. It is also available as an opt-in via Google Assistant, allowing users to replace their Assistant with Gemini. The chatbot is available through the Google Search app on iOS with a switch toggle on top.
Additionally, Google is expanding Gemini’s extension feature, allowing users of all languages around the world access data from first-party apps, including Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs), and YouTube.
