Powered by Conversa AI, an AI-powered conversational video platform from StoryFile, “Voices from the Front” allows museum visitors to have conversations with 18 individuals who experienced WWII. The project was facilitated by extensive interviews conducted with war survivors conducted in collaboration with museum oral history staff.

“Preserving the personal accounts of those who served and sacrificed in defense of our freedom during World War II is at the foundation of our mission, and having these men and women share their stories with visitors firsthand has long been a hallmark of the Museum experience,” Stephen Watson, president and CEO of The National WWII Museum, said in the release. “Now, Voices from the Front will take this storytelling to a new level, allowing guests to continue to have their own conversations — through the power of StoryFile’s conversational AI platform — with members of the WWII generation, even long after they have passed.”

The “Voices from the Front” exhibit included stories from the following war survivors (among others):

  • Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, an Iwo Jima veteran and recipient of the Medal of Honor who passed away in 2022.
  • Grace Janota Brown, an aircraft factory worker.
  • John “Lucky” Luckadoo, a bomber pilot from the “Bloody Hundredth” air group.
  • Lawson Ichiro Sakai, a veteran who served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (which was comprised entirely of Japanese-American soldiers) and who passed away in 2020.
  • Ben Lesser, a concentration camp survivor.
  • George E. Hardy, a pilot with the Tuskeegee Airmen.
