Artificial intelligence (AI) hallucinations will be largely eliminated by next year, said Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder, Inflection AI and DeepMind.
Hallucinations occur when a large language model (LLM) generates outputs that are logically correct, but are disconnected from reality. The issue of hallucination has become worrisome as LLMs are increasingly becoming convincing, leading users without sufficient domain knowledge to excessively rely on them.
“I’m very convinced that we’re going to largely eliminate hallucinations over the next year. And they’re going to be as accurate as any content that you can find on the web,” Suleyman said at the Nasscom Technology Leadership Forum (NTLF) 2024.

Suleyman said the elimination of AI hallucination would have a dramatic impact on education because these conversational AI’s are very friendly and fluent, helping in easier learning. He added that the mode of teaching through AI will entirely be personalised and interactive.
“It’s going to be a much more efficient way for many students to absorb information and be able to ask questions in a style and tone that really suits them,” Suleyman said in a virtual interaction with Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh.
Every field will be touched by this nascent technology and the industry is just scratching the surface, Suleyman said, while responding to a question on which areas will be most impacted by AI.
He further said that if someone uses a computer as her/his primary means of getting work done, then AI will soon help the person do the job much better. “In areas like call centres and sales positions, where there are very obvious costs that can be driven out of the system,” he said.

Another prediction that Suleyman made is that an AI will represent every person and organisation, advocating and presenting their story and brand value. He said current interfaces like websites and social media pages are “static” and do not adapt or personalise. Going forward, AI will serve as a constantly available and personalised digital representative.
